Following last weekend’s defeat to Atalanta, Lazio landed on the island of Sardinia seeking a rebound victory over Cagliari. The match will kick off on Saturday at 20:45 CET.

The Biancocelesti have the opportunity to extend their 21-match unbeaten streak against their favorite victims. However, the quality gap between the two squads has narrowed recently, with several Rossoblu players capable of cementing starting roles at the expense of current Biancocelesti regulars.

So it’s time to select the best combined XI between Lazio and Cagliari, while also taking into account those who won’t be available for this contest.

Goalkeeper: Ivan Provedel (Lazio)

Elia Caprile has been on a steady rise, and he certainly has a bright future ahead of him. But in this moment of time, Ivan Provedel would get the nod.

Right Centre-Back: Mario Gila (Lazio)

The Spaniard will miss the contest after picking up a knock, but it would be difficult to leave out the Real Madrid youth product, who is on the shortlist of some of the biggest clubs in the world, including AC Milan.

Centre-Back: Yerry Mina (Cagliari)

The former Barcelona and Everton defender’s dark arts have earned him more haters than admirers, but most coaches would want such an unapologetic, cynical figure marshalling their backline.

Left Centre-Back: Alessio Romagnoli (Lazio)

Selecting the former AC Milan captain was one of the easiest choices on the list, as he keeps out the up-and-coming Oliver Provstgaard and Juan Rodriguez out of the list.

Right Wing-back: Marco Palestra (Cagliari)

The Atalanta loanee has already established himself as one of the finest wing-backs in Serie A, with many considering him the absolute best in his role on Italian soil. Adam Marusic and Manuel Lazzari never stood a chance.

Deep-Lying Playmaker: Nicolo Rovella (Lazio)

Nicolo Rovella is still working on finding his optimal condition after a long battle with injury. Once he returns to full fitness, he should reclaim his status as one of the most reliable Registas in Italy.

Box-to-Box Midfielder: Luca Mazzitelli (Cagliari)

Kenneth Taylor is swiftly beginning to prove his worth following his January transfer, but Luca Mazzitelli has been excellent since the start of the season. The well-rounded Italian is willing to do the dirty work in midfield, while also providing an elegant touch when required.

Left Wing-Back: Nuno Tavares (Lazio)

This is probably the least inspiring choice on the list, but theoretically speaking, Nuno Tavares is a more competent wing-back than his teammate Luca Pellegrini and Cagliari’s Adam Obert, while Riyad Idrissi remains one for the future.

Right Winger: Sebastiano Esposito (Cagliari)

While his young brother, Francesco Pio, has been stealing the limelight in his maiden Serie A campaign, Sebastiano Esposito has truly taken his game up a notch, proving to be a versatile attacker who can bring the best out of his teammates.

Striker: Semih Kilicsoy (Cagliari)

The 20-year-old Turk has been an absolute revelation in Sardinia, scoring some jaw-dropping goals while showing an elusive finishing touch and an outstanding calm and composure beyond his years. Daniel Maldini and Petar Ratkov remain well behind.

Left Winger: Mattia Zaccagni (Lazio)

The Lazio captain is an almost automatic choice. Gianluca Gaetano is having a solid campaign, but enough to trouble Zaccagni.
