Tom Cairney’s stunning strike off the bench earned Fulham a deserved point as they drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace in a scrappy Premier League encounter at Selhurst Park.

The game was short on quality for long spells, with both sides struggling to impose themselves. Palace appeared to have edged ahead for good when Jean-Philippe Mateta rose to head home, continuing his habit of delivering in the air.

Fulham, however, were much improved after the interval and began to take control. Raul Jimenez came close to equalising when his header struck the post, before Cairney produced a moment of class, curling a fine effort into the corner from the edge of the box.

The visitors pushed for a late winner and went agonisingly close in stoppage time. Timothy Castagne saw a close-range effort brilliantly kept out by Dean Henderson, while Joachim Andersen blazed over from a promising position.

The draw extended Crystal Palace’s wait for a league win to four matches, while Fulham’s unbeaten run stretched to four, with the visitors perhaps feeling they had done enough to take all three points.
