Nottingham Forest winger Callum Hudson-Odoi will miss the rest of the season after thigh surgery.

The 25-year-old was forced off late on during last Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League win over Porto, having come on at half-time and departing in the 72nd minute. The club said in a statement that he suffered a right quadriceps injury, had surgery on Tuesday, and will begin rehabilitation immediately, with a return to full training expected in pre-season.

His Instagram post featured hospital-bed photos, thanks for the support, and confirmation the operation was successful, along with a hope to return stronger and better.

He was on crutches at the City Ground on Sunday as Forest beat Burnley 4-1, offering support from the sidelines.

Losing Hudson-Odoi is a setback for head coach Vitor Pereira, with Forest five points clear of the relegation zone and five games left. They visit Sunderland on Friday at 8pm, then host Aston Villa next Thursday in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final.
