Brentford have confirmed the signing of former England and West Ham striker Callum Wilson on a free transfer, joining for an initial 12-months.
The 34-year-old joins the Bees as a free agent after his contract with the Hammers expired following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
Wilson, who only joined the Hammers last season, departs having scored seven goals in 35 league appearances.
Brentford head coach, Keith Andrews said: “Callum is someone that everyone will be familiar with, he has been a Premier League goalscorer for such a long time.
“He gives us more options in that area of the pitch, and will help Igor Thiago and Kaye Furo with the experience that he has. He’s just got that nous to score goals, as well as that experience around the training ground.
“This is another really good signing for us.”
Despite his age, Wilson is expected to provide competition for current Brentford striker Igor Thiago, who scored 22 Premier League goals in the 2025/26 season.
The former England international is no stranger to the Premier League, having represented AFC Bournemouth, Newcastle United and West Ham. Across those spells, he has made 271 Premier League appearances and scored 95 goals.
With the milestone of 100 top-flight goals now within touching distance, a return to the Premier League with Brentford offers Wilson the opportunity to reach the landmark.
West Ham were reportedly keen to retain the 34-year-old for their upcoming Championship campaign and offered him a new contract, which was understood to be under consideration. However, the opportunity to continue playing Premier League football ultimately saw Wilson opt for a move to Brentford.
Several other clubs were also interested in Wilson, with it being reported that the three promoted teams, Hull City, Ipswich Town and his boyhood club Coventry City, were all keen to secure the striker’s signature.
At 34, and with an injury record that has limited his minutes in recent seasons, Wilson is expected to provide Brentford with an experienced option from the bench rather than a regular starter.
He embraced that role at West Ham, making 21 Premier League appearances as a substitute and scoring several important goals off the bench, most memorably a 93rd-minute winner against Tottenham Hotspur.
Wilson becomes Brentford’s third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Jannik Schuster and Jaidon Anthony, the latter completing a reported £17 million move from Burnley earlier this week.
