Some of the big Chelsea news today was on Cole Palmer, who hasn’t been picked for the England squad this summer.
This probably isn’t such a surprise to Chelsea fans who have seen him play this season as it is to some others. But he will still be devastated by it. In his press conference today, Calum McFarlane was asked if he saw there was actually a positive in there, in that it meant Palmer would finally get a full summer break.
“I think in life and in football, especially in football I’ve learned that you need to take every setback as a positive,” McFarlane said, going into full High Performance Podcast mode.
“There’s going to be lots of them. There’s going to be losses. There’s going to be moments like this. If you have the right mindset you can turn it into a positive.”
More straightforward than that, it just means a proper break for Cole, and the chance for a full preseason with his new manager. There can be no excuses made for him when next season rolls around.
McFarlane also spoke in glowing terms about Jorrel Hato, a player he clearly thinks really highly of.
Reece James sounds like he will be fit for the game on Saturday, with no real injury issues just the general ongoing caution about his minutes.
