Intense discussions are currently underway between Liverpool and the Egyptian Football Federation to determine when Mohamed Salah will join the upcoming "Pharaohs" camp, in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations set to kick off in Morocco on December 21.
According to the British daily Liverpool Echo, head coach Hossam Hassan wants his star to arrive in Cairo well ahead of the CAN 2025 opener, so he can take part in a friendly match against Nigeria on December 14 at the Cairo International Stadium.
This scheduling puts the English club in a real bind: Salah's involvement in this friendly would rule him out of the Premier League clash against Brighton on December 13, as well as several key fixtures scheduled over the festive period and just after the New Year.
Egypt will kick off their continental campaign on December 22 against Zimbabwe. Should they go deep in the tournament, Salah could miss up to six crucial matches for the Reds.
This scenario presents a major challenge for Dutch manager Arne Slot, who is now forced to devise attacking solutions to compensate for the absence of his top player.
