It’s just a week since Bayern lifted the Meisterschale at the Campus as they were crowned Bundesliga champions once again. The confetti and celebrations were on full display again in Cologne on Thursday as the Munich Frauen retained yet another trophy with the DFB Cup, making it back-to-back domestic doubles.

Things have been less joyful for HSV in recent weeks. A late goal in their last league outing saw them beaten 2-1 by Köln and fail to secure top-flight safety going into the final day. Rodolfo Cardoso’s side had earlier gone down 1-0 at home to Union Berlin despite a host of chances. It means Hamburg come into Matchday 26 three points above Essen in the relegation zone but also with a goal difference that is nine goals better off.

This season saw Bayern face HSV for the first time in over 13 years, bringing a 6-0 win at home in the earlier league meeting. They then met again in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup in March, where Edna Imade, Franziska Kett and Natalia Padilla Bidas netted in a 3-0 win to ensure progress. Bayern are also on a club record run of 18 away wins in a row in the Bundesliga since a 2-2 draw at Freiburg in November 2024. The only two teams to register longer such sequences in the division are Turbine Potsdam (22 from 2003 to 2005) and Eintracht Frankfurt (27 from 2004 to 2006).

José Barcala is still without long-term absentees Sarah Zadrazil and Lena Oberdorf (both cruciate ligament). Jovana Damnjanović is in individual training and won’t feature. Harder (slight muscular issue), Bernadette Amani (knee) and Giulia Gwinn also aren’t in the travelling squad.
