The forgotten Manchester United defender has been reintegrated after failing to secure a summer move
Manchester United have confirmed Tyrell Malacia is back training with the main group.
Malacia has not made a first team appearance for Man United since being substituted at half-time against FCSB in the final league phase fixture of the Europa League back in January.
The Dutchman, who joined the Red Devils from Feyenoord for £13million in July 2022, was subsequently sent out on loan to PSV Eindhoven for the second half of last season and went on to make 12 appearances across all competitions.
Upon returning to Carrington in the summer, Malacia was expected to depart in the transfer window amid links to Elche and Turkish outfit Eyupspor.
However, he was the only member of Ruben Amorim’s so-called five-man ‘bomb squad’ - including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho - that did not leave.
Instead of taking a similar approach to Chelsea, where Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi - two players who also failed to secure moves in the summer transfer window - are still both training away from the first team, United have allowed for Malacia to be reintegrated.
A statement reads: “Also part of the main training group again was Tyrell Malacia.”
With the deadline for squad registration having passed last month and their latest fixture against Sunderland fast approaching, many United supporters may have been questioning if Malacia can feature in the Premier League?
The simple answer to the question is yes, he can.
In a surprise twist, Malacia was named in Man United’s reduced Premier League squad which means he is an option for Amorim at least until the January transfer window opens.
That said, it could still be a while before the 26-year-old is available for selection for the senior team as the plan is for him to build up his fitness with the U21s.
Speaking ahead of the Chelsea game last month, Amorim said: "Tyrell Malacia is returning to contact with team-mates and the ball in the U21s then we'll see."
