MIAMI – The Final Round of the 2026 Concacaf Women’s U-17 Qualifiers continues its final matchday with Canada facing El Salvador in Group A on Sunday at the Costa Rica Federation Field #1 in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Canada enters as the first-place team in the group with a 2-0-0 record, following a 5-nil win over Nicaragua and a 7-nil victory against the Dominican Republic. A draw would be enough for The Reds to secure its place at the top of the group, and the berth to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026.
El Salvador arrives with a 1-1-0 record and can take first place with a victory. La Selecta began its campaign with a 1-1 draw against the Dominican Republic and is coming off a 4-nil win over Nicaragua.
The team that finishes second may still qualify to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup if it finishes as the best runner-up across the three groups.
All-Time series
Canada and El Salvador will face each other for the first time in any round of the Concacaf Women’s U-17 Championship.
For Canada, this will be match #13 against Central American teams in the Concacaf Women’s U-17 Championship. The Canadians have recorded 11 consecutive victories and have lost only once (2-0) against Costa Rica on July 24, 2008, in the semifinals at Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Trinidad and Tobago. The goals for Costa Rica were scored by Fabiola María Sánchez and Katherine María Alvarado. Eighteen years have passed since that match, which was also Canada’s first-ever game against a Central American team in the history of the Concacaf Women’s U-17 Championship.
El Salvador will face a North American team for the fifth time in the history of the U-17 Championship. In its previous four matches, it has lost all of them:
9-0 vs United States (July 20, 2008)
7-0 vs Mexico (November 1, 2013)
3-0 vs Mexico (February 1, 2024)
7-0 vs United States (April 5, 2025).
Overall, North American teams have recorded 33 consecutive victories when facing Central American teams in the history of the tournament. In the previous 36 matches, there has been only one win by a Central American team, Costa Rica’s 2-0 victory over Canada on July 24, 2008.
