Canada, Mexico advance Quarterfinals of U-17 Women’s World Cup

SALÉ, Morocco – The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025 continued on Wednesday with the conclusion of the Round of 16, as Concacaf nations Mexico and Canada advanced to the Quarterfinals.
Mexico earned a 1-nil victory against Paraguay, while Canada was victorious, 6-nil, against Zambia. The two nations will be in action on Saturday and Sunday as the tournament’s semifinalists are determined.
Mexico 1, Paraguay 0
Mexico earned a 1-nil win against Paraguay at Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 3) in Salé, Morocco.
The lone goal of the encounter came in the 17’, as Berenice Ibarra struck a header off a corner kick to provide the eventual match-winning goal.
Goalkeeper Valentina Murrieta was a pillar under the posts to earn the clean sheet, her third in the tournament, with one of her most important interventions in the 54’, when she denied a bicycle kick in the area.
Mexico will play Italy on Sunday in the Quarterfinals.
Canada 6, Zambia 0
Canada earned a 6-nil victory against Zambia at Football Academy Mohammed VI (Pitch 1) in Salé, Morocco.
The first goal for the Canadians came in the 13’ from a right-footed shot from Melissa Kekic.
Daniela Feria-Estrada doubled the lead in the 30’ with a first touch from the center of the box.
Mya Angus joined the scorers list in the 39’ with a left-footed volley from outside the area.
The Canucks kept their energy high, increasing their lead in the 80’ through a Chloe Taylor header. Amy Medley struck a right-footed shot in the 85’ to further the advantage by five.
Feria-Estrada collected her brace in the 90’+2’ off a free kick from the edge of the area to put a bow on the victory.
Canada will play Brazil on Saturday to kick off the Quarterfinals.
