Can’t „give an answer“: Kompany avoids Jackson question

Nicolas Jackson is now only playing a minor role at FC Bayern and there are increasing signs that this chapter could end in the summer. The 24-year-old was once again on the bench for 90 minutes in the 3-2 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt, a symbolic scene in a season in which his prospects have become increasingly bleak

Although the Senegalese was in the squad against Frankfurt, he did not get any game time. His last goal for the German record champions was in November, when he scored in stoppage time in a 3-1 win against FC St. Pauli. This was followed by weeks without any noteworthy highlights – partly due to his participation in the Africa Cup, which he won with Senegal. Since his return, however, Jackson has hardly featured at all

At the press conference after the Frankfurt game, Vincent Kompany was asked about the attacker’s situation. The Bayern coach avoided giving a clear prognosis for the future. „We enjoy having Nicolas Jackson with us. Every decision over the summer will be discussed with Nicolas himself and between the clubs. I don’t have an answer right now. The only thing I know is that we are very happy to have him,“ explained the Belgian

Much praise, little perspective

Kompany’s words sounded friendly, but non-binding. There was no concrete backing in terms of sporting prospects beyond the summer. Instead, the 39-year-old referred to talks after the end of the season. A decision has not yet been made, but it can be interpreted between the lines that those responsible are examining their options

Jackson’s time in Munich got off to a very promising start. In the first few months, he collected several goals and one assist, even if these mostly came in games that had already been decided. Across all competitions, he has five goals and one assist to his name – figures that seem solid, but need to be put into perspective in the context of Bayern’s attack

High costs, small role

With 121 goals in competitive matches to date, FCB are an attacking machine. Jackson’s contribution to this is manageable. Harry Kane is set in the center of attack, with flexible attacking players behind him who can play in several positions. There is little room for a classic backup striker in this structure – especially if he hardly gets any rhythm in the game

There is also the economic component. 16.5 million euros are due for the one-year loan, plus a salary in the double-digit million range. In view of this investment, the sporting return is at least debatable. Munich are carefully weighing up internally whether this package should be put together again next season

As of February 2026, there are many indications that they will part ways again at the end of the season. Nothing has been officially decided, but the division of roles is clear. While Kane remains indispensable, Jackson is fighting for minutes – so far without lasting success. Kompany avoids making clear statements, but it is precisely this silence that speaks volumes.
