Liverpool have been gifted an opportunity they can't afford to pass up. A €50m answer to their prayers.

Liverpool need to sort out the situation at centre-back. Ibrahima Konate's contract expires in the summer and while Jeremy Jacquet is an exciting addition, he doesn't boast the experience the team requires to directly replace his compatriot.

Similarly, Giovanni Leoni is too young to do so - and battling back from a serious injury. Joe Gomez may disappear, too, as he enters the final year of his deal.

Then there's the fact that Virgil van Dijk also enters that final year. There is essentially no chance that Leoni or Jacquet can fill his shoes and a major signing at the back is a must.

Now, there is talk of that 'major' signing. Liverpool are apparently planning for one and it would be a centre-back. The dream one may have been gifted to them, too.

Alessandro Bastoni gift-wrapped

Gazzetta dello Sport claims Inter are now willing to sell Alessandro Bastoni. Even better, they've dropped his asking price to around €50m.

That is a steal. Bastoni is a player Liverpool should consider for twice that and the €50m asking-price makes him a gift.

Though, it will bring the problem of extra competition for his signature. Because make no mistake, there's no better player available for that price if Liverpool are serious about solidifying their backline.
