Cantwell strikes as Birmingham drop to 14th

Blackburn Rovers won 1-0 at Birmingham City at St Andrew's, with Todd Cantwell's second half finish deciding the game as Birmingham slip from 11th to 14th in the Championship.
Ibrahim Osman hit the left post in the 38th minute, then Paik Seung-ho forced Balazs Toth into a save from range (39.).
After the restart, Ethan Laird dragged wide (48.) and Sean McLoughlin headed off target (49.). Birmingham introduced Demarai Gray and Kanya Fujimoto (65.), and Jay Stansfield's effort was saved by Toth moments later (68.).
Cantwell settled it with a composed finish from Ryoya Morishita's through ball (69.).
Birmingham pressed for a leveller as Stansfield headed wide (73.) and Tomoki Iwata drew another save (75.).
Thomas Doyle was denied by Toth (81.), and Iwata missed soon after (81.) as the visitors held firm.
Birmingham had 64.6% possession and recorded 12 attempts. Blackburn Rovers tallied 16 attempts and won 10 corners.
