Fabio Capello has backed Inter to lift the Coppa Italia at the Stadio Olimpico next month, but the former Italy, Milan and Juventus coach has warned that Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio will not be straightforward opponents, particularly with the final being played in front of their own supporters.
Writing in La Gazzetta dello Sport, via TuttoMercatoWeb, Capello was effusive about Inter’s recent form, suggesting the Nerazzurri have rediscovered their very best version.
“Inter have become Inter again,” he said, pointing to the resurgence of Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu as central to the club’s renewed dominance.
Como, by contrast, were described as still lacking the experience required at this level, their youth telling against them in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

With the Scudetto already effectively secured, Capello believes Chivu’s side can dedicate proper attention to preparing for the final, though he flagged one potential distraction. ”
The only real danger is that minds drift towards the World Cup given the long wait ahead,” he said, referencing the summer tournament that looms large for several Inter players.
On Lazio’s prospects, Capello was measured.
He acknowledged that Sarri’s squad is inferior in depth and overall quality to their opponents, but identified two factors that could narrow the gap.
“Sarri has shown he knows how to defend, but the final will be different,” he said, suggesting a Coppa Italia final demands more than simply sitting deep and absorbing pressure. The home crowd at the Olimpico, however, represents a genuine advantage.
“The Lazio supporters will be proudly present and that counts for a great deal.”
His bottom line was clear, Inter should win, but only if they are at full strength. Any significant absentees on the day, Capello cautioned, and the gap between the two sides becomes considerably harder to bridge.
