Real Madrid were stunned by Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final
Carlo Ancelotti says Kylian Mbappe's performance was the only positive to take as Real Madrid lost to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.
In the second El Clasico of the season, Hansi Flick’s side delivered a ruthless display in front of goal in a dramatic clash at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday night.
A double from Raphinha in addition to efforts from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Alejandro Balde secured an emphatic 5-2 victory for the Catalan giants despite Wojciech Szczesny’s second-half red card.
All of this came after Mbappe had given Real Madrid a fifth-minute lead as he raced through, held off a challenge from Balde before firing a low effort past Szczesny.
Los Blancos did get a goal back through Rodrygo shortly after the red but there was to be no further comeback as Barcelona clinched the trophy for the 15th time.
Reflecting on the humbling defeat, a "sad" Ancelotti said: “The game was not good from the first minute to the last. With an extra man, we were not able to find solutions. I'm sad about the game as a whole.
"I can't take anything away from it except Mbappe's performance, who scored a great goal in a good move. We have to forget about the rest and look forward."

Real Madrid’s defeat was somewhat of a shock, particularly the manner of it, as they went into the game unbeaten in eight across all competitions and Ancelotti admits his side simply didn’t defend well.
“I'm not going to name anyone. It was a collective problem," he added in the post-match press conference. "We didn't defend well at the back or in the middle of the pitch.
"The team wasn't compact and we have to get back to defending better.
"We have to look at the reality and that is that we did not defend well in the opposition half or with the low block. They scored goals very easily and we didn't work well either collectively or individually because we lost a lot of duels. We are sad and disappointed and we’ll take that sadness home with us. That's football.
"Our sadness is our fans’ sadness, but we have no option but to look forward and get back the good spirit that has been in the group until this game."
