Carlos Espí is in José Mourinho’s squad for Saturday’s 18:00 friendly against Fiorentina in Austria, where he could make his Real Madrid debut.
According to Superdeporte, the striker joined on Thursday after his 25 million release clause at Levante was paid, then arrived early on Friday to meet Mourinho and his new team-mates before taking part in training at Valdebebas.
Madrid held their final workout on Friday before travelling, with the Fiorentina match set to be their third pre-season fixture following games against Alcorcón and Leganés.
Mourinho sought a tall, Joselu-profile striker who could change games as an impact option in the box, particularly after the departure of Gonzalo.
The Spain Under-21 international is Madrid’s fifth summer signing, after Dumfries, Cucurella, Bernardo Silva and Konaté. He is only the second, alongside the Dutchman, to have trained at the club’s complex so far.
For Levante, the move is the largest sale of a homegrown player in the club’s history, highlighting both the forward’s rise and the academy’s work. Espí has played 66 games and scored 20 goals across three seasons, and was last season’s best Under-23 in La Liga.
