Carlos Soler delivered an emotional dedication after helping Real Sociedad lift the Copa del Rey at La Cartuja, the Valencia academy graduate celebrating with the Senyera around his neck.

According to Superdeporte, he was the Valencian presence in the final and a key figure as his side beat Atlético de Madrid on penalties in Sevilla.

Soler said he was dedicating the triumph to his wife, his parents and his newborn son at home, as well as his grandmother and his grandfather, who had been there for the first one he won but could not attend this time. He also acknowledged his people and the supporters. He reflected that it had been hard to reach this stage and, after years away and unable to enjoy the pitch as he would have liked, he had come back and done so.

The midfielder drove Real Sociedad forward against Atlético, then put in the hard yards in a physical, off-the-ball battle. He converted his attempt in the shootout.

Enjoying a fine spell individually and collectively, Soler has been empowered by Pellegrino Matarazzo to orchestrate play and add vertical thrust in midfield. His maturity is benefiting Real Sociedad and could yet earn him a place with Spain.
