Carlos Vinícius faces uncertain Grêmio future as renewal triggers missed amid outside interest | OneFootball

Carlos Vinícius will miss Grêmio’s Sudamericana tie on Thursday, and his future is uncertain after failing to hit automatic renewal targets.

According to Globo.com, his deal runs to the end of the year, the triggers have not activated, so he can already sign a pre-contract with any club and leave for free when it expires. He has attracted interest from teams in Brazil, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Mexico.

The clause would have extended his stay by one year if he had been called by Portugal or Brazil for the World Cup, or if he had started 70% of matches playing more than 45 minutes between July last year and the end of June 2026. Over that span he featured in 40 qualifying games, 29 this year and 11 in 2025, from 61 fixtures, a rate of 65.5%. Including all of July, his appearance rate is 61.53%.

Talks over a new deal are ongoing but have not yielded agreement, with Grêmio offering a contract for two seasons. A sale this window is ruled out, yet an exit at year end is possible. The club also praise his attitude, and have set a salary cap as they look to reduce their wage bill.

Vinícius has 18 goals in 35 official games this year, plus three in friendlies against Cascavel and Cruzeiro. He is third in the Brasileirão scoring chart with 10, behind Pedro on 12 and Viveros on 11. Since mid last year he has 30 goals in 49 official matches.
