Carlos Vinicius has moved clear at the top of the Brasileirão scoring charts and says his ambition to play for Brazil remains. As reported by Globo.com, he spoke after Grêmio's defeat at Vasco.
The No 95 scored Grêmio's goal at São Januário, taking him to six in the league. He has 11 in 19 this year and is the only Grêmio player to feature in every 2026 match.
Despite this form, Carlo Ancelotti omitted him for the friendlies against France and Croatia, the last call-up before the World Cup. Vinicius said the coach knows who to pick from many high-level options, he was happy for those chosen and would keep working as his dream endures.
The 30-year-old returned to Brazil last year, signing in July, and is under contract until December. His deal includes an automatic renewal with Grêmio if he is called up for the World Cup by Brazil or by Portugal, for whom he is naturalised.
He has 23 goals in 33 games for Grêmio overall. Ancelotti is due to name his final World Cup squad on 18 May.
