Carmelo Cedrún, legendary Athletic goalkeeper and an iconic figure of the Once Aldeanos, died on Monday aged 95. He was the father of Andoni Cedrún, who also kept goal for Athletic and Real Zaragoza.

According to as.com, his funeral will be held on Wednesday in Durango, and Athletic will wear black armbands in their first Liga match at San Mamés.

Born in Amorebieta, his honours included one Liga in 1955/56, three Copas in 1954/55, 1955/56 and 1957/58, and the 1950 Copa Eva Duarte. He played 404 games for Athletic, debuting on 15 April 1951 at San Mamés against Sevilla FC.

He was succeeded by José Ángel Iribar, who replaced him at La Rosaleda in a 1962 match against Málaga. Cedrún went to the 1962 World Cup in Chile with Spain and won 13 caps.

He held the club record of 132 consecutive Liga appearances from 1952 to 1957, a mark surpassed only in 2019 by Iñaki Williams. Supporters paid him an emotional tribute at San Mamés before the Granada match that year.
