Carrascal has rejoined Flamengo after 10 days off, completing the club’s nine World Cup call-ups ahead of the Brasileirão restart. According to Globo.com, he will not face Chapecoense as he still has two games of an STJD suspension to serve.

The Colombian did not feature in the tournament and has not played since a 7 June friendly against Jordan, so he would not have travelled anyway given his lack of recent action.

Defenders Léo Pereira, Danilo and Alex Sandro also checked back in on Thursday, though they are not expected to be available in Chapecó as their conditions are assessed. Danilo was used regularly by Brazil at right-back, while he plays centrally for Flamengo.

Varela is confirmed to play after featuring in Friday’s friendly against Olimpia. De la Cruz and Plata are working through load management and could join the travelling squad if their numbers allow.

Arrascaeta and Paquetá remain sidelined and will miss Chapecoense. Arrascaeta is in physical transition after a right calf issue sustained during Uruguay training at the World Cup, while Paquetá continues treatment on a left thigh injury picked up against Japan.

Head coach Leonardo Jardim said players without recent training need a careful build-up, noting some have been out for one to three months. Flamengo sit second on 34 points, seven behind Palmeiras, and complete the first half of the league against the Santa Catarina club.
