Álvaro Carreras will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League round of 16 first leg against Manchester City, the defender sidelined by a right calf muscle injury.

Just over 24 hours before kick-off, the club announced the No 18 would not be available to Álvaro Arbeloa.

The former Benfica full-back, who joined in the summer, is the latest addition to a lengthy injury list troubling Arbeloa. He declined to comment on the Prestianni case.

Real Madrid are also without Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos, David Alaba and Éder Militão. The tie in Madrid is set for Wednesday, 11 March, at 20:00.

This season, Carreras, valued at 60 million euros, has made 35 appearances for Real Madrid, 23 in La Liga, eight in the Champions League, two in the Copa del Rey and two in the Spanish Super Cup. Across 2,949 minutes, he has two goals and two assists.
