Michael Carrick has said he wants to bring the magic back to Manchester United after being announced as the club's new permanent head coach.

Carrick has signed a contract until 2028 at Old Trafford and will continue in charge next season, following his successful period as interim manager.

After taking charge in January, following Ruben Amorim's exit, Carrick has guided the Red Devils toChampions League qualification. The club's results and improved dressing room atmosphere have persuaded the board to hand Carrick the permanent position.

His appointment means Carrick will continue an affiliation with Manchester United that started in 2006, when he signed for the club from Tottenham Hotspur as a player.

Carrick made 464 appearances for Manchester United and won a wealth of honours, including fivePremier League titles and the Champions League.

He is one of only two English players, alongside Wayne Rooney, to have won a clean sweep of honours after lifting the Premier League title, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, League Cup, FA Community Shield, UEFA Europa League and FIFA Club World Cup at Old Trafford.

At the announcement of his appointment, Carrick outlined his ambition to ensure the club are challenging for the biggest honours again.
