The Court of Arbitration for Sport has ruled against Corinthians over unpaid loan fees for Maycon, ordering the club to pay €1 million to Shakhtar Donetsk. The ruling found Corinthians in breach of Article 12 of FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, adding 10% annual interest from each due date and fines of €75,000 under the contract and €45,000 for the rejected appeal.
Globo Esporte first reported the Switzerland-based tribunal’s decision. Corinthians must settle the sum within 45 days of notification, otherwise a fresh transfer ban will be imposed.
Shakhtar took the case to FIFA in 2024 after talks with Corinthians dragged on for more than two years without agreement. The Brazilian side sought to offset part of what was owed via solidarity payments arising from Pedrinho’s 2021 transfer from Benfica to Shakhtar. Even after that approach was accepted, Corinthians did not honour the revised deal.
The amount due is estimated at roughly R$ 7.2 million.
This is Corinthians’ second active sanction at CAS. The other involves money owed to Talleres from the early 2024 signing of Rodrigo Garro, with a deal being negotiated to pay a FIFA award of $3.6 million, about R$ 18.7 million, a total that could reach R$ 32 million due to bank charges. That sanction may be suspended if the agreement is finalised.
