Casemiro believes he would have remained at Manchester United for one more year had Michael Carrick been appointed earlier, according to the Sun.

The midfielder is leaving United at the end of the season despite producing a series of impressive performances since Carrick took over in January.

The 34-year-old has played some of his best football in the Premier League under the soon-to-be next permanent manager of Man United.

Carrick has taken measures to ensure the Brazil international stays fully fit, and he completed 90 minutes in four consecutive games for the first time this season earlier this month.

Casemiro feels he would have been able to play longer for the Red Devils had the Englishman come in earlier.

The South American missed Man United’s match against Sunderland last week, the first time he had sustained an injury this season.

He is expected to move to Major League Soccer after the World Cup in the summer, with a deal to join Inter Miami on the cards.

Casemiro has handed over gifts to staff he has worked closely with at Carrington training complex.

He will say ‘goodbye’ to the fans on Sunday when the Red Devils host Nottingham Forest in their final home game of the season.

Casemiro has bagged nine goals and two assists in 33 league games this season, with five of those goals coming under Carrick.

This season is also his best-ever in terms of goals scored since he started his professional career in 2010.

Several of his teammates have expressed a desire to see him remain at the Theatre of Dreams beyond this season.

United have a big task on their hands as they look to get the perfect replacement for the Brazilian this summer, and Carrick will hope they get it right.
