Iker Casillas has named Gaizka Mendieta and Diego Alves as his choices for title-deciding penalties, cutting through the noise around Real Madrid’s election.
According to Superdeporte, the former Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper told Adri Contreras in a recent interview that, if a trophy hinged on a single spot kick, he would ask Mendieta to take it.
Mendieta earned a formidable reputation from 12 yards with Valencia, noted for calm execution and accuracy under pressure.
Asked to pick the goalkeeper for the reverse scenario, a decisive penalty to win a championship, Casillas opted for Alves.
The Brazilian built his name as a penalty saver in LaLiga, particularly at Valencia, and is widely regarded as among the best in the role.
Meanwhile, the race between Enrique Riquelme and Florentino Pérez continues to intensify at Madrid. Casillas has been linked to Riquelme’s candidacy, and there is no official confirmation of any role he might take.
