Castelló will host a public screening of Spain’s World Cup quarter-final against Belgium in Plaza Mayor.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the city council will install a giant screen in the city centre so residents, visitors and fans can watch the match live at 21:00.
Spain reached the last eight after Monday’s win over Portugal. The quarter-final will be played in Los Angeles on Friday 10 July.
The square will be turned into an open air stand, aiming to gather hundreds for a night of football and a World Cup feel.
Mayor Begoña Carrasco had already trailed the plan, which is now being put into action following Spain’s progress. The aim is to offer an open, central and shared setting, strengthening backing for the team at a key moment in the tournament.
The council hopes for a strong turnout after the tension and excitement of the Portugal tie. The big screen will let supporters follow every moment and could turn the heart of Castelló into a collective celebration, should Spain take another step towards the title.
