Castelló is considering relocating the giant screen for Sunday’s World Cup final at 21.00, citing anticipated demand. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, officials are assessing whether Plaza Mayor can safely host the turnout.
Recent screenings, notably Tuesday’s semi-final, left Plaza Mayor at capacity, prompting a review. Mayor Begoña Carrasco said no decision has been taken and both crowd limits and technical requirements are being studied.
Carrasco stressed the choice hinges not only on space but on broadcast quality. If the feed had to rely on streaming, goals could reach phones before the big screen.
Municipal technicians spent the day checking potential sites to ensure capacity, visibility, a stable TV signal and safety. Options include the Recinto de Ferias y Mercados de Castelló, Refeyme, which hosted a Fito & Fitipaldis concert on 17 April 2026 with more than 17,000 attendees.
That venue currently faces logistical complications, with several circuses on site, so availability and signal suitability must be verified.
The mayor declined to pre-empt any move and said every possibility remains on the table. If the screen stays in Plaza Mayor, the council will implement entry and capacity controls similar to New Year’s Eve or the Christmas lights switch-on.
She expected a lively atmosphere and voiced confidence in a Spain win, while stressing the need for an orderly celebration. The location will be confirmed shortly. Attendance is set to rise given the match’s importance, kick-off time and the weekend, and councils across the province have urged civic behaviour.
