On Thursday 2 July 2026, CD Castellón are set for a landmark day, with Cala close to leaving for Espanyol and Iñigo Córdoba targeted to strengthen the attack.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Espanyol are set to pay the 5 million euros release clause that took effect with the start of the 2026/27 season. The deal is in its final stages, with fiscal and administrative formalities expected to be completed in the coming hours.

The move would become the club’s biggest sale, surpassing the roughly 2 million euros received for Daijiro Chirino’s switch to Almería last summer.

Calatrava, 26, will sign a long-term contract at Espanyol, with a higher buyout clause. Castellón will also keep a sell-on percentage for any future transfer.

On the pitch, he has produced 21 goals and 19 assists in 75 matches, highlighting his influence between the lines and in the final third. His departure would leave a significant creative gap.

To address that, Castellón are working on the free signing of Córdoba, 29, after his spell at Burgos. He has played 77 games in the past two seasons, with seven goals and seven assists, operating mainly off the left and valued for his work without the ball. His arrival would be a swift response, while the sale boosts resources for squad planning.
