Despite recent poor results, more than 10,000 fans turned out on a Monday to back CD Castellón against Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa at SkyFi Castalia.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, fans enjoyed the build-up near the ground. SkyFi Castalia will also host Almería on Thursday at 20.00 and Granada on Easter Monday at 19.00.
Before kick-off, both teams lined up in support of LaLiga’s anti-racism campaign. One of Castellón’s captains, Alberto Jiménez, was presented with a shirt bearing 100 to mark his 100 games. There was also a tribute to the late grandfather of Israel Suero, who died aged 90.
Eneko Satrústegui, familiar to home fans, figured in Cultural’s promotion last season, his third ascent to Segunda after going up with Castellón in 2020 and Racing in 2022. At 35 he has played little this term. Before the game he greeted former team-mate Diego Barri, now with Castellón and previously at Cultural.
Club president Bob Voulgaris attended, alongside sports councillor Maica Hurtado and other city officials. Academy teams shifted training times so many youngsters could be in the stands.
Attention now turns to Saturday’s trip to Albacete at 21.00. Pablo Hernández will welcome back the suspended Mellot, while Cala is out after a fifth booking and internationals Mabil and Cipenga will also be unavailable. The team will be backed by more than 700 orelluts.
