Vasco’s progression to the Copa do Brasil final on Sunday 14 at the Maracanã has sparked fallout beyond the pitch. Family members of CBF officials were seen backing the club, causing unease at Fluminense, beaten in the semi-final.

According to PaponaColina, Natália Xaud and Gabriel Xaud, the wife and son of CBF president Samir Xaud, attended, as did Mariana Feijó, daughter of the federation’s football director, Gustavo Feijó. The trio showed open support for Vasco.

Natália Xaud and Mariana Feijó watched from the stands wearing Vasco shirts. After the final whistle, Gabriel Xaud entered the pitch, celebrated the team’s progress, posed for photos and interacted with Vasco players.

The episode unsettled Fluminense officials and supporters, who questioned the CBF’s image of impartiality at a decisive stage of the country’s main knockout competition.

Internally, the view was that public, uniformed displays of allegiance by immediate relatives of the federation’s leadership are not compatible with the posts those officials hold.

The CBF had been approached for comment and had not responded at the time of publication. The issue continues to reverberate in Brazilian football in the build-up to the final.
