CBF publishes VAR analysis of Evertton Araújo red in Corinthians v Flamengo draw | OneFootball

CBF published the VAR analysis of Evertton Araújo’s dismissal after a studs-up challenge on Breno Bidon during Corinthians’ 1-1 draw with Flamengo at Neo Química Arena on Sunday night in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The federation said the audio captured discussion between on-field referee Rodrigo Pereira de Lima and VAR Wagner Reway over whether the offence merited red or yellow.

Reway initially judged the contact to brush Bidon’s heel and considered a straight red too harsh, recommending an on-field review for a caution.

Rodrigo Pereira de Lima responded that Araújo played the ball then went over it with excessive force. Asked to specify the contact point, he said the studs caught above the ankle.

Reway maintained it was lateral contact on the foot and again urged review, but left the final decision to the referee. After checking, Rodrigo Pereira de Lima ruled it was contact both above and below, and upheld the red card.

CBF released only this incident’s analysis, not the two other flashpoints that drew complaints from both clubs, the second-half penalty shout for André after a challenge by Ayrton Lucas and Gabriel Paulista’s first-half aggression on Jorginho.
