CBF publishes VAR audio from Gabigol goal ruled out against Atlético-MG | OneFootball

The Brazilian Football Confederation published on Sunday the VAR audio and explanation from Gabigol’s disallowed strike during Santos’ 1-0 win over Atlético-MG at Vila Belmiro in the 11th round of the Brasileirão.

The incident came on 18 minutes of the first half when right-back Igor Vinicius shot and the ball deflected off the striker’s arm into the net. Under the laws of the game, such a goal must be disallowed.

The on-field call was initially goal, then the referee requested a check for a possible handball. After review, the VAR team determined the ball hit Gabigol’s arm and advised an immediate annulment, which the referee accepted as a factual decision.

Following the overturn, Gabigol was booked and coach Cuca was sent off for dissent. Santos later went ahead through Moisés in the second half, scoring the only goal of the match.

The game was refereed by Rafael Rodrigo Klein, with Rafael Traci as VAR.
