Semi-automatic offside could be used in this year's Copa do Brasil from the quarter-finals, with the CBF to review its deployment round by round. According to Globo.com, the system has been on test for about a month.
For it to be applied in the cup, every stadium involved in a given round must have the technology installed. That condition rules out the round of 16 in the first two weeks of August.
Cameras have been installed in the 19 stadiums used by Série A clubs. Arena Crefisa Barueri, used by Palmeiras when Nubank Parque is unavailable, will also have the structure.
Two Série B sides are in the last 16 and their home grounds do not have the system. Fortaleza, who face Palmeiras, have negotiated to host in Cuiabá, while Juventude meet Atlético-MG.
There is no start date yet for live operation in Brazil. Tests have involved youth matches and friendlies, and upcoming Brasileiro fixtures such as Botafogo v Santos and Vitória v Vasco this Thursday are expected to be used in simulations.
The trials are offline, with cameras sending images and data to the CBF VAR centre in Rio de Janeiro for analysis, without any influence on matches. Eight games have been covered so far, and referees are being trained.
Recently, 17 referees from the CBF professional list completed an immersion programme in Madrid, except Raphael Claus, Wilton Pereira Sampaio and Ramon Abatti Abel, who were at the World Cup. Around 60 officials are at Granja Comary this week for training through to Friday.
