CD Castellón have brought back academy graduate Juanjo Nieto, the announcement landing shortly after news that Brian Cipenga had joined UD Almería.
The club said in a statement that the right-back arrives on a free and has signed until 30 June 2029.
Nieto came through Castellón’s youth ranks before departing in 2013. He joined Real Valladolid B, winning promotion from Tercera to Segunda B, then moved to Atlético Baleares in 2015. In 2016/2017 he stepped up at Mallorca, playing seven Segunda División games for the first team.
His breakthrough came at Hércules between 2017 and 2019, producing 78 appearances as the side just missed promotion. That form earned a 2019 switch to Real Oviedo, where he played 60 times across two seasons, scoring three and assisting five.
He stayed in the second tier with UD Almería in 2021, making 18 appearances, then spent two seasons at SD Huesca, adding 42 more. That experience leaves him well versed in the division Castellón are tackling for the third straight season.
Over the past two campaigns with Celje in Slovenia’s top flight, he posted 87 games, eight goals and seven assists. He also featured in the Europa Conference League, reaching the quarter-finals in 2024/2025 and the last 16 in 2025/2026.
Thirteen years on, Juanjo Nieto returns to Castalia.
