Everton Cebolinha scored Flamengo’s second in a third-round Brasileirão win at Vitória, then immediately embraced provider Léo Ortiz.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the gesture stood out as the centre-back has faced criticism from some Flamengo supporters early in the season.

The goal arrived with the final act of the first half. From a midfield free-kick, Ortiz sent a quick, pinpoint pass into the area for Cebolinha, who controlled and finished into the goalkeeper’s right corner.

Arrascaeta, Lucas Paquetá and Emerson Royal soon joined the celebrations with the defender. Despite recent scrutiny, Ortiz supplied the assist and played a key part in the victory.

The squad were given Wednesday 11 off, and will return to training on Thursday 12 with full focus on the Carioca knockout stage.

Flamengo face Botafogo in the Carioca quarter-finals on Sunday 15 at Estádio Nilton Santos, with kick-off at 17:30 Brasília time.
