Paris and cities across France celebrated PSG’s Champions League triumph on Saturday night, but festivities were marred by unrest and hundreds of arrests.

Cheers rang out from 21:00 at the Parc des Princes, where more than 48,000 supporters watched, and across the capital after victory over Arsenal, 1-1, 4-3 on penalties. Within minutes streets filled with horns and songs, and thousands headed for the Champs-Élysées, more than 20,000 by mid evening.

In a 01:30 briefing on Sunday, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said there were 416 arrests nationwide, including 283 in the Paris area. He reported seven police injured, one seriously in Agen with a head trauma, amid disturbances in around 15 cities, including lootings in Rennes, Strasbourg, Clermont-Ferrand and Grenoble.

Across Paris the night featured chants, mortar fireworks and flares. Four attempts to block the périphérique were swiftly broken up by police. In the 8th arrondissement, a group tried to attack the police station before being dispersed.

PSG set out Sunday’s celebrations soon after the win. A parade is scheduled for the Champs-de-Mars (XVe), with gates opening at 14:00 and close to 100,000 expected. The double Champions League winners are then due to be received by Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée.
