Fresh off of the back of beating Brendan Rodgers’ men, the Ibrox ranks were buoyed by the rampant manner of their victory over their chief tormentor and his pesky side.
A rare off day for the Hoops away from home and against a side which was well up for the fight and in all honesty, due a result against the Scottish Premiership Champions, ended with Phillipe Clement and his team walking away with an air of hubris and bravado – the likes of which only our brethren in blue can do in such audacious fashion.

For sure, they thought the comeback was on once again and with a few January additions, they would take the fight to Celtic in the second part of the season.
However, true to form, in the resulting week since, they have managed to fall even further behind the Hoops in the (cough) title race! Drawing with Dundee in the City of Discovery last night confirmed that they are now worse off than they were before they played us at Ibrox stadium last Thursday. 15 points now separates the two teams after another two precious points on the road were squandered by the Belgian and his men.

In the Sky Sports studio after the match, a dismayed Kris Boyd sat with James McFadden and former Celtic striker, Chris Sutton. Sutton did little to improve the mood of the bluenose pundit though when he had a pop at Boyd’s team, claiming that Rodgers and his men will be sitting at home laughing at them for the way they have dropped the ball since their colossal home victory over the Bhoys. Speaking after the match, the Englishman said: “You look at theRangers squad. Does the jersey fit for a lot of these players?

“I have said it before there is a losing mentality at the club and nothing really has changed. This isn’t just on Philippe Clement this has been happening now for years and years. Celtic are laughing at them. Brendan Rodgers is cracking open the champagne this evening laughing at them. It is an embarrassment that we are in the early part of January and Celtic are 15 points clear at the top. That is shocking. It is amazing.

“Myself and Kris thought Clement should have gone a long time ago but they are sort of at a crossroads now. Can this go on?
“Is Patrick Stewart going to look at the bigger picture and not just one game against Celtic were they raised their game or the odd game in Europe Domestically I said before the game, Philippe Clement will come out and talk about Celtic having the bigger budget.”

He added: “But (the)Rangers should not be dropping 19 points against sides that has far lesser budgets and he never mentions that. We hear the excuses week in, week out now and it is about time he took ownership but he won’t. This Belgian waffle will carry on and on and won’t stop until a decision is made on him.”
