Celtic battled back from two goals down to draw with Rangers at Ibrox in a result that truthfully helped neither team.
Both sides knew how important this game would be in terms of who is able to challenge Hearts for the title.
It was the home team who were much the better for the first 45 minutes though taking the lead in spectacular style.
You don't see too many overhead kicks in the Old Firm derby but that's exactly what Youssef Chermiti delivered as he acrobatically converted Skov Olsen's cross.
From that spectacular goal to one much more farcical as the Celtic defence somehow were unable to clear the ball from their own box allowing Chermiti once again to arrive and provide a much more mundane finish.
It took until the second half for Martin O'Neill's side to wake up and they pulled one back in the 56th minute when Benjamin Nygren floated one in for Kieran Tierney to make it 2-1.
From that point Celtic pushed for an equaliser and they got one late on from the penalty spot – and with a lot of luck. Daizen Maeda's header had hit the arm of Dujon Sterling with VAR intervening before the award of the spot-kick.
You have to feel sorry for Jack Butland after that, not only did the Rangers goalkeeper save the penalty from Reo Hatate he also stopped the follow up too. It was only at the third time of asking was Hatate able to make it 2-2.
In the end a draw is something that neither side really wanted, although it was a result that Celtic would certainly have taken at half-time. The real winner, of course, is Hearts, who finish the weekend seven points clear at the top of the Premiership.
