Celtic in talks over formal Glasgow title celebrations | OneFootball

Private discussions between Celtic, community leaders, Glasgow City Council, and Police Scotland have been taking place ahead of the Scottish Premiership’s conclusion to prevent potential future disorder. Despite theRangers being trophyless, the report claims that they have been involved in case of future celebrations.

As reported by Glasgow Times, Celtic have had talks regarding potential title celebrations in May. Brendan Rodgers’ side are 13 points clear of theRangers and are expected to make it 4IAR in the coming weeks.

Last year, around 25,000 Celtic fans gathered in Merchant City, causing disruption, due to fears of anti-social behaviour. Residents and businesses have reported feeling intimidated, and authorities have condemned the incidents. However, if the club and local council were to offer a solution then this would suit all parties.

During last year’s celebrations, four police officers were injured, and 19 arrests were made. Similar occasions occurred in 2022 and 2023 with disruption in the Trongate. Talks are ongoing about organising official celebrations, but no agreement has been reached. MSP Kaukab Stewart has arranged a meeting with stakeholders to find long-term solutions.

The worst offending was in 2021 after Rangers celebrated a rare title win with riot police being deployed on George Square to quell disorder.

The council supports clubs hosting structured events but insists there is no excuse for disorder. Police Scotland has also confirmed they are working with partners to ensure public safety. Discussions will continue as the season ends, with Celtic and theRangers yet to comment.
