Celtic interest in Obert, makes sense if Welsh and Murray go out on loan

The left sided centre back who represented his nation at the recent under 21 European Championships has already made 12 appearances for the full national side.

Obert is currently a Cagliari player and has made over 80 appearances for the Serie A side, most of them in the competitive Italian top flight, and is valued at around the £3 million mark. The Slovakian who can also operate at left back has reportedly been the subject of a failed bid by Celtic, with it being unclear if we are prepared to go in with a higher offer.
If indeed there is such substance to the reports then it will lead to question marks over the likes of Liam Scales and Auston Trusty if Obert was brought to the club, as it would clutter up our squad, but a young powerful centre back who can also operate at left back would be seen as a positive signing.

As Niall J mentioned earlier on The Celtic Star, the arrival of Jahmai Simpson–Pusey on loan from Manchester City for the season could end any Celtic interest in Adam Obert but with Celtic you never know. If both Stephen Welsh and Dane Murray went out on loan for the season then that could provide a space for Obert as a left sided defender operating at left centre-back or left-back in the Kieran Tierney understudy role.

And at least it’s a rumour to raise some hope that the Celtic money-men aren’t asleep at the wheel when it comes to signing players, in contrast to their high state of readiness to receive any incoming offers particularly if their asking prices are met. What are they like?
