Celtic’s £2.5 million move for Jocelin Ta Bi could be back in play despite recent Sunderland links.
According to reports in Israel, the deal could still go ahead, with Celtic arranging a London visit for a second medical opinion after an ankle ligament issue was flagged, to assess severity and possible surgery.
The Ivorian winger had appeared close to joining the Scottish champions earlier in the window, before talks stalled late on. Sunderland interest then surfaced, with suggestions they were attempting a hijack and were well placed to land him.
However, his agent has shut down the prospect of a switch to the Stadium of Light, leaving Celtic in position to complete a transfer if they choose.
Ta Bi has described joining Celtic as a dream and thanked supporters in Israel for helping his progress. He said he would not forget his loan at Hapoel Petah Tikva as he aims to realise that ambition at a famous club.
The 20-year-old right-sided winger has spent 18 months on loan at Hapoel Petah Tikva from Maccabu Netanya. This season he has 2 goals and 2 assists in 12 top-flight matches, and he played a key part in their promotion last term.
