The Hoops are in a state of stasis at the moment in the transfer market, as speculation begins to grow ever stronger that CEO Michael Nicholson and his sidekick Chris McKay, appear unable or unwilling to fulfil their duties. For the avoidance of doubt that is to bring quality talent into the football club for Martin O’Neill. It’s a pressing rebuilding job, that the Celtic manager has been left to tackle himself.
Numerous names have now come and gone in the summer transfer window this year, with only Qarabag star Camilo Duran arriving for north of £5 million, which would have been easily covered by the exits of Maik Nawrocki and Honduran winger Luis Palma. That the club have still not added more players to bolster the squad is scarcely believeable and now the supporters are rightfully concerned about the direction of travel under the current stewardship.
In the meantime though, 27-year-old Freese has been named in contention with a move to Paradise this window, with Martin O’Neill keen to bring in more competition for Viljami Sinisalo and Ross Doohan, now that we’ve lost experienced keeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Our Great Dane had to retire earlier than planned, owing to a nasty shoulder injury which left the 39-year-old needing major surgery.
Celtic had thought to be hot on the trail of Hertha Berlin star Tjark Ernst, however, Feyenoord have won the race for the German stopper, with the club now back to the drawing board. UD Las Palmas man, Dinko Horkas, is another whose name was strongly in the picture, but those reports seem to have softened somewhat, claiming that no official proposals have been sent thus far for the Croatian goalkeeper.
Now X account, MLS Transfers, have claimed that Celtic are one of a number of interested clubs in the USA World Cup star. It is said that the Bhoys and a whole raft of English sides are firmly in the mix for the man who helped his country reach the tournament’s Round of 16 stage on home soil. Taking to social media, they said:
“Source: Celtic FC are interested in #NYCFC and #USMNT goalkeeper Matt Freese.
Various reports also have English clubs firmly in the mix for him as well.”
Another one for the “interested” category! Three separate Celtic organisations, mostly notably the Celtic Supporters Association have issued statements over the last few days outlining their growing concern at the way the club is being run and in particular the failings of Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay to fulfil their remits especially relating to transfer business.
And speaking the AICSC earlier this month Nicholson admitted that Celtic were having difficulty attracting players blaming competition from England’s Premier League and the Championship, agents, the mainstream media ( who aren’t banned unlike the Celtic Fan Media) and Glasgow itself as a city. Scattergun stuff blaming everyone and everything but themselves for being rank rotten at their highly paid jobs.
