Celtic’s Trusty appeal is doomed to fail. We must plan for Ibrox without him

Auston Trusty’s appeal is pointless. We must plan for Ibrox, and KT could be the answer to our central defensive woes…

Celtic have decided to appeal the red card shown to Auston Trusty in Sundays home defeat to Hibs, although to be honest it’s a useless waste of everyone’s time as it ain’t got a hope of being successful.

The club’s update stated: ‘Celtic FC can confirm that we will be submitting an appeal to the SFA in relation to the red imposed on Auston Trusty during yesterday’s match. The Club believes that the player was wrongfully dismissed and that the decision was reached following VAR intervention.’

Auston whether you want to admit it or not, only has himself to blame for his moment of madness, and he and he alone is to blame for that rush of blood, as not only did he scupper our chances of a victory against Hibs, he now has to sit out the clash at Ibrox, and possibly another fixture, leaving our already stretched for options backline very light on numbers.

The only other options we have to play alongside Liam Scales are the young and inexperienced Dane Murray, who to be honest doesn’t fill you with great confidence, and the even more inexperienced Benjamin Arthur. A dilemma that is yet another example of our club’s sheer incompetence on the recruitment front.

The club now finds itself in a position where it has spend more money this year on appealing Auston Trusty red cards than it has on transfer fees.

Back to Sunday. What if we don’t need to throw either youngster into the hostile atmosphere of Ibrox? The Alternative? Kieran Tierney of course, who has been utilised at centre back on numerous occasions for club and country, and it’s an area he looks just as confident and assured in such is his great versatility.

Kieran Tierney would add experience as well some much needed steel and determination to the heart of our defence, and at the same time it would allow the impressive Marcelo Saracchi to start in his favoured left back berth.

A back four of Julian Araujo, Liam Scales, KT, and Marcelo Sarrachi is the best option available to us in regard to Sunday’s noon showdown in Govan.

An experienced back four of international footballers who can defend and attack in the same assured manner, is what is required as we seek to earn a result that will save our season from going down the toilet.

Best of luck with the appeal but the chances of success are slim to non existent. Why not give Dermot Desmond your updated password for the official site and get him to unleash one of his Rodgers style rants against the corruption from the match officials and the Scottish FA?
