And that bad premonition has come true.

The terrible injury suffered by Giovanni Leoni has ruined Liverpool's depth completely. Not signing Guehi in January and letting Man City take him made Liverpool's failure to land him in the summer look even worse.

Sure, Liverpool have signed a player in Jeremy Jacquet for the future. But he has not solved the club's current problems. This season is now pretty much a write off.

The reality is that Jacquet and Leoni alone won't be enough to give Liverpool sufficient depth.

With Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate both vulnerable to injuries, and also facing uncertain futures, Liverpool will need more additions.

It looks like Liverpool are exploring the market. ahead of the summer. There's been reports that the club has been sending scouts over to FC Midtjylland to watch their games this season.

Anfield Watch understands the player Liverpool are keeping a close eye on is Ousmane Diao.

At 21-years-old he represents the perfect profile, and someone who could be the ideal Gomez replacement this summer.

Despite his young age, Diao already have over 100 senior appearances under his belt. He's played over 50 games for Midtjylland and has proved to be a threat from set-pieces scoring over 10 goals during his time with the club so far.

On the ball, he's a composed defender. He can hit it long and make cross-field switches that help progress his side quickly into advantageous positions. His accuracy when finding teammates with long passes is also very good.

Undoubtedly, his biggest strength is his speed. Diao is insanely fast, and he's very quick at surrounding his attacker to completely swallow up their space, this allows him to be a capable full-back as well.

He's strong in his duels, sticks tight to his opponents and is very good at taking the ball from them using his upper body strength and his long legs to pry the ball away from their feet.

Earlier this season, he proved that in a performance at which Liverpool scouts were again present.

Against Genk in the Europa League the Senegalese centre-back won 14 out of 14 duels, including 9 out of 9 aerial duels and 5 out of 5 ground duels. He also won 3/3 tackles and produced a superb performance.

That's the kind of performance at a high European level that confirms a player is ready to make the next step-up.

And whether he's ready to join a Premier League club? Well, he confirmed that this week, Diao came up against Nottingham Forest and helped his side to a 1-0 victory not only putting in a brilliant performance but also providing the crucial assist that decided the first leg of the tie.

Diao's performance against a Premier League side confirms, he's ready to join Livverpool.

As for whether Diao would be interested in a move, he has already hinted earlier this season that he would love to play with Hugo Ekitike in the future, and play in England.
