The games continue to come thick and fast for Bayern Munich. The Bavarian club enters a defining week of football in the Champions League and Bundesliga. First up is the clash against Celtic in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Bayern have to play two extra games in the Champions League since they didn’t finish in the top 8 during the group stage. They must beat Celtic over two legs to book a place in the round of 16. Even though Bayern are heavy favourites to win against Celtic based on the quality of the two squads, the Scottish club can certainly take inspiration from the likes of Feyenoord, Aston Villa, and FC Barcelona. These three clubs managed to beat Die Roten during the group stages.
The injury situation at Bayern is getting better, but several players will not be available for Bayern on Wednesday. Let us look at the potential starting XI Kompany may use against the Scottish giants.
GK, Manuel Neuer- Despite inconsistent form this season, there are no doubts about Manuel Neuer being the first-choice goalkeeper for Bayern. Neuer will look to repay the club’s faith in him by delivering two quality performances this week.
RB, Konrad Laimer- After delivering a brilliant cameo against Werder Bremen on Friday, Kompany will likely stick with Konrad Laimer in the right-back position.
CB, Kim Min-jae- Considering the importance of the game, Kompany will not tinker in central defense. The South Korean struggled against Holstein Kiel, but he recovered well against Werder Bremen on Friday. The Bavarian faithful will hope to see a commanding performance from Kim Min-jae in a hostile environment.
CB, Dayot Upamecano- Since Bayern have started contract talks with Upamecano, it is clear that he is one of the first names on the team sheet under Kompany. The French defender will look to continue his good run of form on Wednesday.
