Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to extend their 12-game winning streak in all competitions on Tuesday, as they travel to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Xabi Alonso’s side have been in phenomenal form and recently gained a 3-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach but remain second in the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich being four points ahead.
Leverkusen currently sit in fourth place in the Champions League table with 13 points which is also the same number of points as eighth placed Lille, meaning a lot of movement could take place in the table over the next couple of days.
The German champions have not reached the knockout round of the Champions League since 2016-17 and have only won three of their previous 21 matches away from home against Spanish opposition.
Their opponents were recently knocked off the top of the La Liga table as Diego Simeone’s side suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Leganes.
Real Madrid took advantage of this with a win against Las Palmas and are now two points clear at the top.
There is plenty of work for Atletico to do in the Champions League as they are currently in 11th place with 12 points from six matches.
However, they are just one point behind eighth placed Lille who currently hold the last automatic qualifying spot.
Team News
Atletico will be without defender Jose Gimenez due to a muscular issue.
Striker Alexander Sorloth is a doubt for the game but there is a chance he could be included in the squad.
As for Leverkusen, Martin Terrier, Jeanuel Belocian, Victor Boniface and Amine Adli will all be missing.
Martin Terrier was forced off with a torn achilles against Borussia Monchengladbach and will miss the rest of the season.
