Champions League: PSG comes from behind to defeat AS Monaco
Despite trailing by two goals, PSG pulled off a stunning 3-2 victory over AS Monaco this Tuesday evening at the Stade Louis-II in the first leg of the Champions League playoff.
Monaco got off to a dream start against the Parisians. From a Golovin cross, Balogun, completely unmarked behind Mendes, opened the scoring with a close-range header (1-0, 1’). A goal after just 55 seconds. Under pressure, ASM showed ruthless efficiency by doubling their lead, with Balogun netting his brace from a precise finish after Akliouche's through ball (2-0, 18’).
To make matters worse for PSG, Ousmane Dembélé was forced off with an injury and replaced by Doué. However, the Parisians responded emphatically thanks to Doué, who found the back of the net with a powerful strike (2-1, 29’). Back in the game, the capital club equalized with a low drive from Hakimi after Doué's initial attempt was parried by Köhn (2-2, 41’).
After the break, Golovin was rightfully sent off following a VAR review for a studs-up challenge on Vitinha's shin. Down to ten men, Monaco retreated even further. Relentless in attack, PSG finally broke through again as the inevitable Doué scored his second of the night after a clever pass from Zaïre-Emery (2-3, 67’).
The scoreline would not change again! PSG claim the win and now have one foot in the UCL round of 16.
