The UEFA Champions League returned in thrilling fashion on Tuesday night with statement victories for Liverpool & Bayern Munich against Real Madrid & Paris Saint Germain respectively, in the fourth round of the league phase.

At Anfield Liverpool earned hard fought 1-0 win over Real Madrid ending the Spanish side’s perfect run in this season’s competition.

After goalless first half, Alexis Mac Allister broke the deadlock in the 61 minute meeting Dominik Szoboszlai’s free kick with precise header that finally beat the in form Thibaut Courtois.

The result lifted Arne Slot’s side to 9 point, level with Real Madrid at the top of their group. It also echoed last season’s meeting at Anfield when Liverpool beat Madrid 2-0 at the same stage.

Bayern overpower PSG in Paris

In Paris, Bayern Munich extended their flawless European campaign with 2-1 victory over Paris Saint Germain at the Parc des Princes.

Luis DIaz was the star of the opening half netting twice in the 4 and 32 minutes to silence the home crowd before being sent off in first half stoppage time following reckless challenge on Achraf Hakimi,who left the field injured.

Despite being man down, Bayern defended bravely. PSG pulled one back through JoAo Neves in the 74 minute but Luis Enrique’s men couldn’t find an equaliser.

The French champions' night was further marred by injuries to both Hakimi & Ousmane Dembele who limped off earlier with thigh problem.
