Kasey Palmer has spent the second half of the season on loan at Luton Town

Luton Town are still in the mix for a play-off place in League One this season with only a handful of games remaining.

The Hatters have just five fixtures left to close the gap to the top six under Jack Wilshere, or else they’ll be spending another year in the third tier.

The club were relegated last season for the second time in a row, having gone from the Premier League to League One in just two campaigns.

Wilshere was appointed as manager in place of Matt Bloomfield last September after a difficult start to the term, with the former England international taking on his first role in management.

The 34-year-old previously worked as a coach at underage level at Arsenal, as well as in the Norwich City first team squad, before taking on this role at Kenilworth Road.

Four wins and two draws from their last six games has put Luton within three points of sixth-place Stevenage, who have a game in hand on Wilshere’s side.

Kasey Palmer reveals permanent Luton move stance

One player that has been instrumental in the team’s positive run of form in recent weeks has been January loan signing Kasey Palmer.

The midfielder arrived from Hull City in the winter market, and he’s had a very positive impact for the Hatters since then.

Palmer has revealed that he’d be open to a move to Kenilworth Road on a permanent basis in the summer.

However, the 29-year-old insisted that the final decision will not be his, even though he is thoroughly enjoying his experience in Wilshere’s side and the atmosphere within the squad and the dressing room.

"Hopefully it can kind of find a solution and I can come back here next season, but to be honest I don’t know, there’s no actual concrete answer," said Palmer, via Luton Today.

"For sure, I’m enjoying the players, being in the dressing room, coming in every day, it’s a perfect fit I think.

"If it can continue next season, then I wouldn’t be against it, but we’ll have to see what happens in the summer.

"I’m enjoying being here, enjoying the team, enjoying the staff, the fans, it’s just been perfect so far.

"The aim was to get in the play-offs when I signed, if we fall short I’ll be disappointed, but we’ve just got to keep going."

Palmer has contributed four goals from 15 appearances since making the switch to Luton.

The midfielder struggled for game time under Sergej Jakirovic at Hull, playing just nine times in the Championship this season prior to his move.

Palmer scored his first goal for Luton in a 1-1 draw against Doncaster Rovers, before finding the back of the net in wins against Wycombe Wanderers, Exeter City and AFC Wimbledon.

Luton have moved up to 10th in the table with their recent run of form, having now won two on the spin.

Next up for Wilshere’s side is a trip to Wembley Stadium to face Stockport County in the final of the EFL Trophy on 12 April in a 3pm kick-off.

Kasey Palmer move in the summer would make sense for all parties

Palmer has done well for Luton, and he’s making a positive impact on the team’s ability to compete for promotion.

While a top six finish may still prove a little too much too late for the Hatters, a deal to sign Palmer in the summer would make a lot of sense for everybody.

The 29-year-old fell down the pecking order at Hull prior to his loan move, and it’s hard to see him working his way back into Jakirovic’s plans, particularly with just one year left on his current contract.

And he has performed well for Luton, and is a natural fit in Wilshere’s side, so keeping this going for at least another year could prove quite beneficial.
